On Wednesday 13th July The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell Cllr Clive Woodbridge opened Surrey’s first Local Pantry joining over 70 other pantries across the UK. But what is a Local Pantry?
Epsom Pantry, in South Street, has been formed by local charity Good Company with the support of Your Local Pantry A local pantry is there to help soften the blow of high living costs. They stock an abundant and wide range of top-quality food including fresh fruit and veg, frozen and chilled food, meat and dairy products, and long-life tinned and packaged food.
Membership is free and you pay just £5 per weekly visit, and in return you can choose groceries worth many times more, often saving up to £1,000 a year on shopping bills.
Pantries are just like a shop, in that you choose the food you want from the shelves. There are no prices on show just Diamonds and Hearts
For your £5 you can chose 7 diamond items, some may cost 2 or 3 diamonds per item, and 3 heart items. There is also a large selection of free items. The fresh vegetables have been donated by members of Epsom Rotary Club from their allotments. In fact all the item in the pantry have been donated.
