Stalemate at the ‘Villa’

It ends in stalemate at the ‘Villa’ as Epsom and Ewell FC travelled to Montpelier Villa FC in Brighton for their 7th away game of the season out of 10 games so far which is a remarkable statistic in itself.

Unlike Fetcham Grove Montpelier play on a 3G pitch so EEFC team would need to make some adjustments if they were to bring the 3 points home.

There were a few changes from their last victory with Josh Alder and Jubril Adamson promoted from the subs bench to start. There was no Jaevon Dyer due to sickness on the day before the match. It was good to welcome back Eldi Baze to the subs bench and Aaron Bogle returned to the centre of the defence.

EEFC began the match brightly and nearly took the lead very early on when a long range shot from Ryan Smith nearly caught the opposition keeper out, but it just missed the target. The rest of the first half was played in the opposition half, but in truth EEFC created very few chances.

The second half followed the same pattern with EEFC dominating possession but again creating very few chances. However, the best chance of the match thus far was squandered by Montpelier after a break midway through the second half. EEFC made several changes to try and break the deadlock but all to no avail, yes they had chances to score but EEFC found the Home keeper in good form so the match finished in a disappointing 0-0 draw for EEFC but a great result for Montpelier who are near the bottom of the table.

However, EEFC remain top of the table and have a chance to increase their lead at the top with the rearranged game at bottom of the table Forest Row on Tuesday evening. so that will be 8 aways and only 3 home games this season so far. But EEFC then face two games at Home at Fetcham Grove with a game against Seaford Town next Saturday 22nd October followed by a match against Billingshurst on Saturday 29th October.

The team and the club would love to see a few more supporters from Epsom and Ewell come along to these games to show their support for the team as they strive to remain at the top of the table. Why not come on down and cheer the team on.
