Underground Cathedrals – but ‘Mind the Gap’
The world’s first underground railway has a unique heritage of architecture, ingenious design, powerful advertising posters and unique calligraphy. Ian Swankie’s talk plots the early development of the Underground, examines the legacy of Frank Pick and Charles Holden, looks at some of the iconic posters and celebrates the award-winning architecture of the modern tube in the Jubilee Line Extension.
Ian will also take a look at a few of the new Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) stations, designed by some of the world’s top architects.
