What’s On In My Town was started in May 2012. It was never intended to turn into a business, it was just a hobby. Back in 2012 I noticed that in my area it was difficult to find out what was going on locally. That’s were the idea of What’s On came about.
With no training, just a basic understanding of Facebook, Twitter and now Instagram, I started posting about local events in the Borough of Epsom & Ewell in Surrey. As the website and social media pages grew, event organisers and local businesses started to contact me asking to advertise taking me to where I am today, 10 years on, with the most followed community social media pages in the area.
There are currently over 20 What’s On In My Town pages across England run by individuals and couples who are making a huge positive difference to the communities where they live. By supporting local charities, schools, religious groups and of course promoting local businesses at an affordable rate, these people work where they want, when they want. Some still have full time jobs and do this as a hobby for extra income. The more they put in the more rewards they reap, and they do as much or as little as they want to, earning more the more they do.
So what makes a good What’s On person?
Being passionate about where you live helps a lot. Covid has taught us all to appreciate our local area hugely. Wanting to help the local community is also another essential requirement, be it working with charities, local government or local businesses and being positive about where you live. Basic knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and using your mobile phone is also very key to the role.

So how much is this going to cost you?
Your time and nothing else. This is not a franchise, it’s your own business. I supply you with the tools, the training and the support to help you. In return I take 30% from all sales.
What if you don’t sell? Then we need to see why and what I can do to support you and help you make an income. There are no sales target to meet each month, I just want you to be happy in what you are doing and the more you make the better for us both!
