Judy McKenzie: Spring Maker in Focus

We are thrilled to introduce Judy McKenzie, a new artist to our gallery but a celebrated figure in the world of ceramics. After a long and successful career in design and printing, Judy pursued her passion for ceramics at the age of sixty, earning a 1st Class (Hons) degree in 3D Craft and Design, followed by an MA from the prestigious Royal College of Art. Her specialisation in the ancient Japanese techniques of Nerikomi and Kintsugi has led to international recognition, including an invitation to exhibit in China and a commission from the Royal Over-Seas League.

Judy’s work is a meticulous blend of tradition and innovation. Nerikomi, a highly skilled and time-consuming process, allows endless possibilities for creating intricate patterns and forms within the clay. Judy handcrafts every stage of her porcelain pieces, from colouring to shaping, letting the clay twist and shift naturally to produce unique, beautiful designs. Her pieces are not glazed but are polished to achieve a smooth, tactile finish, reflecting her deep connection to the material.

Emma Dunbar: Colourful Conversations

We are delighted to present Colourful Conversations, a solo exhibition by Emma Dunbar. Known for her vibrant and playful style, Emma captures the essence of everyday life through her use of bold colours and decorative patterns. From landscapes to still life, her paintings celebrate the beauty found in ordinary objects, inspired by daily walks, holidays, and even supermarket trips.

Emma, who trained in Fine Art Printmaking, skilfully layers acrylic on board, often incorporating collages with gold and silver leaf. Her distinctive technique of scratching through surfaces to reveal hidden colours brings depth and texture to her work. Drawing inspiration from places like Cornwall, Hampshire and Surrey, Emma’s joyful compositions are a feast for the eyes, filled with warmth and life.

A Portrait of Farnham: Peter Gillespie

Presenting A Portrait of Farnham, the new exhibition by Peter Gillespie, a Farnham-based artist known for his lively and expressive ink and watercolour depictions of buildings and streets.

Peter’s work captures the essence and vibrancy of the built environment, bringing out the character of each scene without the use of pencils or rulers – just freehand strokes of ink and splashes of watercolour. From intricate facades to the beauty of everyday lampposts and telephone wires, Peter’s signature style transforms familiar settings into much-loved artworks of Farnham.

Join us for a special Meet and Greet with Peter on Saturday, 8th March, from 11 am to 1 pm, where he will be sketching a new artwork live.

Additionally, bring the family along for a free half-term workshop on Tuesday, 18th February, from 11 am to 2 pm – no booking required, all are welcome to drop in and get creative!
